Sounds Familiar shows announced for 2011

Sounds Familiar, the show group based in Benissa on Spain's Costa Blanca, have announced a number of shows and appearances for 2011. Much of the music will be recorded or sourced by Apollo Music.

Two confirmed dates have been published for two different shows.

Careline Theatre, Alcalalí
"Comedy Tonight"
11th March 2011

This will be a musical revue with a heavy slant towards comic numbers and routines.
This will be followed in June with:

Casa de Cultura - Calpe
"West End Nights"
15th June 2011

This show will be similar in style to last year's "Musical Magic" but a completely different programme.

The group is also due to make a guest appearance in a show sometime in January that will be announced soon.

We look forward to working with Sounds Familiar in their productions for 2011.

Louise plans a small dinner party for her husband Tony's birthday. She invites all three of the Managers who work for Tony at his construction firm, but only one decides to accept the invitation bringing his wife with him. The only other guests are their son (with drunk girlfriend in tow).

Champagne bubbles are not the only things to surface as Blackmail, Betrayal and Murder bring Louise's dinner party plans crashing to a halt!

This short film ends without solving the mystery. You must decide what the solution is, before finding out if you have solved the crime.

Sophii Negus has released her debut single called "Look To The Stars". The song is written and performed by Sophii and is dedicated to her late friend Josh. Josh died at the age of 13 from a rare form of asthma attack. Proceeds from the sale of the single are being donated to the "Asthma UK" charity. Silver Screen Live Show

In October the Casa de Cultura in Calpe is hosting a live show to pay homage to the music from the movies of Hollywood. The show is produced by Philip Ashley and will be staged by the amateur show group “Sounds Familiar” who performed their debut show in February in the same theatre. They will be joined by students from “Theatre Express” in Javea in performing song and dance from Robin Hood, James Bond, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mary Poppins, First Wives Club, Little Shops of Horrors and many other well-known big screen productions.

The previous production was set in a “bar” with Sounds Familiar on stage throughout the entire show. This show, called “The Silver Screen”, is set at an award ceremony and all the music is taken from films, but as with their last show the music will sound familiar to the audience.

The Silver Screen will be performed on Wednesday 7 October 2009, with the show itself starting at 8pm. The doors will open at 7.30pm. Tickets cost 12 euros for adults, and 8 euros for under 14’s, with 25% of the ticket money being donated to the Lions Club of Calpe and Benissa.

Tickets are available from the Book and Card shop in Galerias Mar Azul, Av Gabriel Miro in Calpe or from Telitec in Moraira on the Calpe coast road. Alternatively you can book your tickets online at www.philipashley.com/soundsfamiliar or by telephone on 96 558 1483.

Currently the group is made of experienced performers and also some members who have never taken part in a show before. Friday 27th February 2009 will see the first performance from Sounds Familiar at the Casa de Cultura in Calpe at 8pm. The show, also entitled “Sounds Familiar”, includes a variety of numbers from pop culture from the 60´s to today plus songs from the shows.

Sounds Familiar is a new amateur group formed after group singing workshops held over the Summer which are still continuing today. The group aims to present music of a high standard and include some dance and drama. The group believes that the music in the show should be familiar to the audience hence the name Sounds Familiar.

Tickets will be priced at 12 euros each, or 8 euros for under 14’s. They are available from Telitec Connections, Ctra. Moraira-Calpe 80 in Moraira, The Book & Card Shop, Galerias Mar Azul, Av. Philip Ashley has announced a new amateur production entitled "Sounds Familiar". The show features music from both musical theatre and pop culture, and will performed by a new amateur performance group of the same name.

Music will be provided by Apollo Music as is the graphic design for posters and advertising material.

Demo Video for Adagio

Adagio have released a Demo video of their act so anyone interested in booking this unique group for their restaurant, hotel or private function can get an idea of what Adagio can do. The video can be requested on DVD or an excerpt is available at http://www.apollomusic.biz/adagio. The group is made up of four singers, all of whom have performed as soloists in their own right.

There are three parts to the act, and anyone booking Adagio can have all three parts or select the part or parts that they particularly want. The sections are:

Easy Listening - usually sat on stools with beautiful harmonies.
Cabaret - includes dance routines and comedy
Dance - Music for you and your guests to dance to.

Their act can last from 1 to 3 hours, and each part can be performed for a full three hours if you wish, or all three 3 parts which gives a well-rounded and entertaining event.

Over €1600 for charity

Last Friday evening saw the performance of Philip Ashley’s latest production “The World Of Music” at the Casa de Cultura in Calpe. With the help of the audience and the sponsors, OCI Radio and Bancaja, the show also raised €1675 for the “Friends of the Children of EMAUS”.

The show was performed and presented to a high standard including beautiful scenery of world landmarks painted by a family of talented artists from Benissa. The four singers were made up from the male duo, Apollo, and two solo female vocalists, Cath Hunter and Savanah.

After the colourful opening number which introduced the entire cast, the show moved smoothly from one number to another, and one style to another, with the singers performing both separately and as duos and trios throughout the show. The dancers were all students being trained at Marcia’s Dance Centre in Calpe, and the June Booth Studio in Orba who gave energetic performances of the Can Can, an Italian Tarantella, a Ho-Down and a traditional dance from Russia.

The songs ranged from musical theatre including Oklahoma, I Got Rhythm, and Well Did You Evah, to pop classics such as Walking In Memphis, You’re My World, Hey Mickey and a dance mix of Don´t Cry For Me Argentina.

During the first half of the show there were also lively performances from children from as young as three years old. For most of these children it was their first time on stage.

Philip Ashley is already working on further projects for later in the year which include a cabaret act with his group Adagio and his own debut CD of classical music.

Live Show - June 6th - Calpe

On Friday June 6^th the Casa de Cultura in Calpe is hosting a musical show to help raise money for the Friends of the Children of EMAUS. The show itself takes us around the World of Music stopping off at different styles ranging from Musical Theatre to Rock and Pop, and from the quiet villages of Cornwall to the vibrant carnivals of Latin America. Students from Marcia’s Dance Centre in Calpe, and June Booth’s Studio in Orba, will be performing in the show along with vocals from Cath Hunter, Apollo (male duo) and Savanah (female vocalist) from the local music scene.

The show’s Producers say that “such a broad mix of music is sure to appeal to a wide audience.” The performers themselves get to perform a range of songs that they would not normally have the opportunity to sing in their own cabaret acts. Philip Ashley from Apollo said “one minute we’re singing backing vocals for Savanah in a driving rock number, and the next we’re singing lead in the Can Can.” Yes, the Can Can does have lyrics!

Tickets are priced at €12 with a guaranteed 25% of the ticket sales going direct to EMAUS. Money will also be raised from a Raffle and Programme sales to help the charity.

Apollo Music have agreed to provide Entertainers for Pink Party, who are a new Party Planner and Event Organiser based on the Costa Blanca in Spain.

The main area that Pink Party work in is around Denia, Javea, Moraira, Benitachell, Calpe and Benidorm, although they can provide event help and advise almost anywhere. All the team members have extensive experience in Entertainment, Catering, Event Planning and Management.

Demo CD. What To Put On It.

A CD that is intended to persuade Bars, Pubs, Restaurants, Hotels or other venues to book a particular act, has to grab the listeners attention and interest immediately. Just think how many of these CD's they are given, and they don't necessarily have the time to sit listen carefully to every one of them. It is much more likely that they will play it in the background while they are working, so it must catch their attention and not just fade into background music.

In my view the absolute maximum for a demo should be 5 songs, although 3 would be better. It´s very unlikely that your prospective client will listen to anymore than that. Also, unlike a live show where the absolute best of your act is at the end (which is the part most of the audience will remember), the best of your tracks should be at the beginning. That way, if the listener just puts it on and is inclined to switch off a CD at the first sign of trouble, they will hear you at your best immediately and hopefully pick up the phone and make a booking. Don't make them wait for your good stuff, they will probably have already switched off.

It is probably advisable to record one or two tracks more than you need so you can pick the best for the Demo. The unused tracks can always be used on a CD for sale at your gigs at a later date, so they won't be wasted.

Finally, if your act changes dramatically, or your band improves, then don't be afraid to re-record your demo. Saying to a venue "This is our demo, but we're much better now" isn't going to give them much confidence in you, and most likely won't even bother to listen to your music.

Demo CD's (and DVD's) have become very important for entertainers gaining work. Don't underestimate them.

Since the end of their summer show “Magic Of The Musicals” the cabaret groups “Adagio” and “Phoenix” have been rehearsing a new show for the Christmas season – aptly named, Christmas Capers - which will open at the Auditori Municipal in Ondara on Wednesday 12th December.

Although the international choir “Los Encantadores” will also join the groups, do not be fooled into thinking this is just another carol concert – far from it. The show will be a total mix of music, dance and comedy and although carols are included, they will not necessarily be presented as you might expect – watch out for some surprises.

The Christmas Capers theme records the highs and lows experienced by the average family during the festive season including the traditional aspects of parties, over-eating, the usual television movies, over-zealous commitment to sending cards and gifts – and of course – the birth of a certain infant in a stable.
